Are Sex Tapes The New Business Card?

Does EVERYBODY have a sex tape these days? People blasted Kim Kardashian for the infamous tape she made with Ray J, but it seems sex tapes have become the norm. Instead of giving out business cards, many women have opted to  promote her sex tape. Now, I don't knock anybody's hustle..with the economy in the shape it's in people get money any way they can.

I have to admit, I had never heard of Mimi Faust until a few days ago. I was just never able to get into LAHH. I had to Google her name and while I'll admit the trailor I saw on Worldstar was hot, I had to wonder how desperate do you have to be to leak your own sex tape. Again,I'm not judging her or anybody else who chooses to go this route but things like this always comes back to haunt you when you least expect it. What kind of affect does this have on young girls who are seeing people they watch on tv posting all her goodies on camera. Believe it or not, there is a double standard in today's workplace. A man would be praised for things like this while women would be criticized for life for the exact same thing.  Most employers are looking into your personal background or social media pages when trying to decide whether or not to hire you for a job and something like this would not look good on your resume.

Now there are some people arguing that young girls shouldn't be watching things like this anyway. But think back to when YOU were underage. I know I'm not the only one who stayed up late nights sometimes, after my parents went to bed and stumbled upon those soft flicks on Cinemax. And out of curosity I turned the volume down really low and watched. Same thing is happening now. There is simply no way a parent can watch their child 24/7. In most households both parents have to work or there is the absence of fathers, meaning the single mom has more of a load to carry. Kids are going to find a way to see and do things if they really want to and kids ARE watcing things like this online, on their cell phones, tablets, etc. whether you think they are or not. Sex is EVERYWHERE these days. Even some of these Disney shows my 9 year old daughter watches cause me to raise an eyebrow every now and then. I won't even get into how some of those Disney channel girls turn out to be, i.e. Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. Most little girls can't differentiate between the real  Miley and the character she played. All they know is Hannah Montana is now on stage with her legs spead, fondling herself for the world to see.

But back to the sex tapes. Yes, a person may get paid a little money or get recognition, or maybe even become famous for it, but what have you really gained? You'd be ready to fight if your child came home crying because other kids are picking on him/her because YOU decided to show your cookie to the world. Or what's going to happen when you finally meet a man who wants a real relationdhip with you, maybe even marriage. Believe me when I say men can't and won't handle things like this very well. He may say it doesn't matter, but once his boys start ragging him about it, he just may decide he can't handle the fact his that his woman sold her body and her dignity for money. Americans love to see a person fail and no matter what good you may do in life, you're always going to be judged on your past. In just the few days since this Mimi tape scandal, I've seen countless memes, videos, and jokes being made about her but I've not heard the guy, Nikko's name being mentioned nearly as much. She is bearing the majority of the backlash and criticism, which again goes back to that double standard. Black women have such a hard time being taken seriously. We're often looked down upon in every little aspect of life. I wish my sister's would learn that you are so much more than hips and thighs, big butts and breasts.

Unfortunatley, Mimi is not the first and definitely won't be the last person to put these videos out as a means to make a name for herself. I find it sad that she thinks she didn't have anything else to offer than her body. The argument was made that nobody should criticize her because women do these things for free all day, everyday so why not get paid for it. What people do behind closed doors should be their business. Social media doesn't need or want to know EVERYTHING that goes on in your life. Some things should be kept private.   We all know that won't happen though.

Somewhere some young girl is trying the shower rod scene, now that she's mastered the art of surfboarding.
